Our Executive Director Jon Schack, had the opportunity to see our tithe in action, as he spent one week building homes with Habitat for Humanity Malawi in September of 2015. Every year, Barron County Habitat tithes 10% of its income to send to developing countries. Malawi has been our partner since 2014, and we have tithed $23,664 towards new home construction there.
A Habitat home in the U.S. can cost on average about $100,000 to build. In contrast, it costs about $4,500 to build a home in Malawi! This means the cost of one U.S. Habitat home home could potentially be used to build 22 homes in Malawi. The money BCHFH sent to Malawi was used to build about four homes for families in need of affordable housing!
